VOLUNTEER AT OUR SCHOOL

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at one of our UEHRF schools. We currently plan to run 50 Hunger-Free Schools and details of each school can be found here. We have various opportunities for you to get involved and volunteer at our schools, please see details below and contact us at info@uehrf.org

Teaching

Workshops

Volunteers can work alongside local teachers to enrich the students’ learning experience. Individuals who are energetic, enthusiastic and patient are best fitted for this volunteer position. A skill set to teach subjects such as English, mathematics and science qualifies you for the job!

Qualified volunteers can conduct workshops on teaching methods for the teaching staff as well as carry out community based workshops on pressing topics such as hygiene, family life, and finance.

Curriculum Development

Extracurricular Activities

UEHRF follows an International standard curriculum, which is specially tailored to cater for underprivileged children. Volunteers with a background in research and education can work on this curriculum and aid our R&D department to develop it further.

Volunteers with a background in music, dance or drama and can share their skills with the UEHRF children. Volunteers can impart their knowledge and have the students enhance their existing understanding about these art forms.

Good To Know Before Coming

Flights	The Arrival Airport in Dhaka is Hajrat Shahjalal International Airport [formerly known as Zia Intl Airport].
Travel Insurance	We recommend that foreign volunteers hold travel insurance! Check with your insurance or Credit Card Company to see whether you might already have it covered.
Passports	Please make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond the date of arrival in Dhaka.
Visas	American, British, European, New Zealand and Australian citizens can get a Bangladeshi visa on arrival at the airport – this is valid for a 15 day stay. You will need $50 or more to pay for the visa fee at the airport. Please note that visas are not available on arrival for the citizens of other countries.
Money	If you plan to stay longer, please send us a passport copy and your current CV by email so we can process an invitation letter which will be emailed to you. With the invitation letter, we will be able to go to the Bangladesh embassy or consulate in your country and apply for a visa. It should take 3-5 working days but we have had volunteers waiting longer. We recommend that you start the process at least one month in advance.
Travel Essentials	Money Bring large USD notes (100 or 50), exchanging these are more profitable. Avoid changing money at the airport, the exchange rate is lower.
Clothing and footwear	Money, torch, camera, batteries, charger, spare memory cards, laptop, universal adapter, earplugs, insect repellent, sun block, First Aid Kit (Paracetamol, antibiotics, Imodium), towels and toiletries (soap, shampoo, shower gel, toothbrush, toothpaste). You may also want to bring wet wipes and hand sanitizers.
Health and vaccinations	We recommend that you consult your doctor before leaving your country with regards to health vaccinations required for Bangladesh. Please also inform us if you have any specific allergies or any medical conditions (i.e. epilepsy or diabetes) that we should be aware of.
Drinks	ONLY drink mineral water and be sure it is sealed and unopened (we recommend brushing your teeth with mineral water as well). Soft drinks like cola, fruit juice or chocolate milk are available at local shops.
Local Behaviour	Bangladesh is a Muslim country and culturally very sensitive; please respect the culture during your stay.
Goods Donations	If you plan to bring donations, please contact us in advance so that, we are able to ensure that we are ready to receive them as customs clearance can be an issue. Monetary donations are preferred.
